π Identification
1.5mm; distinctive bicolored: dark head + translucent/white legs and abdomen β the 'ghost' appearance. Extremely tiny. Coconut smell when crushed. Found in Florida, Hawaii, south Texas. Multi-queen polygyne colonies.
𧬠Biology & Behavior
Tropical tramp ants that have established year-round populations in warm areas. Polygyne colonies bud in response to pesticide spray β same concern as pharaoh ants. Nest in soil, bark, wall voids, potted plant soil.
β οΈ Damage & Health Risk
Food contamination; trails throughout kitchen; nesting inside electronics. Difficult to control due to budding response to sprays.
π§ DIY Treatment
BAIT ONLY. Advance Dual Choice Ant Bait (sweet + protein) or Maxforce Quantum (imidacloprid). Multiple small placements on trails. Colony elimination takes 3-6 weeks. Be patient.
